From acclaimed Thriller Master, David Morrell, comes a classic espionage tale that changed the genre, paving the way for the historical/religious thrillers of Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins.
In a remote monastery in Vermont, a mysterious man has spent six years alone in a cell, doing penance for unnamed sins that he committed for his government. His only human contact is the hand that delivers his spartan meals through a slot in his door. He allows himself only one small pleasure, the companionship of a mouse. When the mouse dies, nibbling bread, a terrible suspicion makes him finally leave his sanctuary and confront the ruthless enemies that he prayed he had left behind.
Beginning with the Crusades and the origin of the word “assassin,” THE FRATERNITY OF THE STONE was the first novel to deal with Opus Dei, the Vatican’s civilian intelligence community. If you like to read about ancient conspiracies that threaten the modern world, this is where the genre began.

This book with the other two books of Morrell trilogy The Brotherhood of the Rose, The Fraternity of the Stone, The League of Night and Fog were some of the best intrigue and adventure books that I have ever read. They are better than Ludlum and the others. They are the best books ever written by Morrell. I have read all but a few of Morrell's books. I think the Fraternity of the Stone is the best of the three but I would read them in order.Product details

The Fraternity of the Stone An Espionage Thriller Mortalis Book 2 edition by David Morrell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I was first "introduced" to David Morrell's writing through The Brotherhood of the Rose (my personal favorite among spy/espionage novels) not knowing that he also had written First Blood and several others. My reading choices are random and subject to my mood of the moment, yet I'll read BOTR, Fraternity of the Stone, and the companion book The League of Night and Fog time and time again - Morrell's style keeps me entranced and entwined within the stories - almost as if I'm living the events depicted fist-hand.
this book was written a few years back, its about the opus dei
the catholic intelligence org. its the best fiction book of its kind ever written.its a real thriller, that begins in a monastery and becomes a chase book like no other ever written.
the story ,the characters, the pace of the book is non stop.
morrell, has written a book that far out paces the da vinci code.both are about a secert org.that no one knows about.
in and out of the catholic church.but that where the secert ends.this book is so much better in every way than the da vinci
code, that you want be able to wait to tell your friends to buy
this one !! the fraternity of the stone.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The unique tie between religion and military makes Morell's writing interesting, and as a pastor, makes a lot of sense.
The book came in perfect quality. I was surprised that it came so quickly as well. I read this book years ago. and was thinking of the main character and story line and searched for the book and was happy I found it. I just started reading it and haven't gotten too far into it but I am looking forward to it.
I'm sure if you are young enough you will really like this novel. Regrettably I am not. If you are a fan of super dudes who come equipped with every kind of talent for every kind of situation who can overcome every kind of obstacle then this is your book. Also to enjoy this book you will need to be a believer in the wildest kind of conspiracy theories. Let me just say that if you believe in either angles, devils, zombies, vampires or even ninjas this is your book
This is one of David Morrells great books. It is fast paced with lots of action and interesting storyline and fascinating characters. If you read this one you need to read "The Brotherhood of the Rose as they complement one another. I have read a lot of this author's books through the years but I prefer his earlier works. Once I start one of his books I can not quit reading. This author either has a lot of experience or he has done quite a bit of research. He has an interesting way of mixing elite forces training with some religious overtones. I can not say enough great things about Morrell and his works. He is a very talented author.
I read these stories out of order.
Fraternity of the Stone is the weakest of the three books. Drew is a monk who used to be a covert operative for the State Dept.
His monastary is destroyed but he survives and he embarks out to find out why?
The plot takes many elements from the Brotherhood of the Rose.
But Drew and Arlene are not fleshed out the way Saul and Erika were, so you can't invest in the,
